Carol K. Stephen hubby has influenced me two times in a week. First, he made some banging taco pizza and I have been thinking about it ever since. Uhhmmmm... I think its dinner tonight... and for a few more nights if I had my way. Next was his testimony. He have inspired me to share my own on how #OBAMA helped me out and got me to where I am today. Long story short, I got pregnant and was taken out of my comfortable poetry life. Now I had a mortgage to pay, a car note, and now 2 children. I was working flexi (meaning, working as needed) at the hospital. About a year and a half later my youngest son Dad died. For the next 2-3 years was the biggest challenge of my life. #Obama support for single parents in education encouraged me to return to school. The extra aid help me fund my education. For a short time, I had to go on unemployment because there was no work needed at the hospital. The extra 25.00 a week that #Obama initiated gave me an extra $100 a month which made a big difference. I was able to get food stamps (which was enough and enabled me to feed many households) AND childcare assistance to help me through my single parent hood. So I applied to be a Substitute Teacher while I go to school. When I filed my taxes, I received back a $2500.00 credit for being in school, was exempt from paying taxes on my unemployment, received another $400 for being in my income bracket, received a higher earned income credit for claiming my children, AND got such a tax break on the actual income I made that I ended up getting over a $10,000.00 return on my taxes. This enabled me to pay off my car. Every semester, I received a refund from school because I was getting more aid. This helped financially for the next two years. Now at the end of Obama term, his help sustain my income until I got a full time position at the hospital, kept me in school and now I am about to finish my Degree in Psychology, AND gave my four year old and advantage in life with his push for early childhood education (Michael-Reign Josiah Roberts attends Lynnhaven Elementary Early Discoveries program... full time!!!). I give #God the glory for putting a man in office that cared about my family and I future. Even the love he constantly displays for his family in inspiring.
